Well, earlier this weekend I saw Palin give this bogus line of attack about Obama "palling" around with terrorists, and I thought "Aww geez, here we go with this guilt by association crap again". The McCain campaign then stated that, after Tuesday's debate, they would begin a sustained assault on Obama's "character" in order to change the subject from the economy.

To be honest, I thought this Ayers attack would backfire, as it was so transparently a move of desperation and distraction that I  thought even the media would call the McCain camp out on it. If a sleazy attack is done subtly enough, it could work. But if it's done in a real ham fisted manner, as the McCain camp has done before (sex ed for kids/lipstickonapig, anyone?) it will backfire, and I assumed it would happen again, here.

But the Obama camp isn't even waiting for the attack to come on Tuesday to fully engage their patented rope a dope, jujitsu Politics. It started with a preemptive strike on McCain with an ad released just today claiming that McCain is "erratic in a crisis" and that there was no wonder he was wanting to "change the subject", cutting McCain's planned attacks for Tuesday out from under him.

 That was a left jab.

 But as McCain reels from that he finds out that he's been lured into unfriendly territory. You want to talk about guilt by association? You really want to talk about that? Well okay....UPPERCUT! Charles Keating! And a KeatingEconomics to the solar plexus!!!

 Obama is unleashing an unmerciful barrage on McCain's Keating connection starting Monday. And the best part? It's totally relevant to the current economic crisis, unlike that totally tenuous Ayers connection.

 Expect the final knockout blow to come in the form of a Gallup poll about a week after this coming Monday, once this really sets in.

As I've said in email after email to you, Cenk, there is no reason to worry with Barack. This guy loves to lull people into complacency with their attacks, and then nail them with a groingrabbingly devastating counterattack, causing them to blow a political gasket. You need to stop worrying, cause you're the ultimate Chicken Little when it comes to Repubes attacking (I guess Kerry really did a number on you)
