You conservatives don't get allot of things obviously humor is one of them.

You and Bobo both came up with a similar thing/video within the same 1-2 hours. Is this the new "in" attack? To compare him to bad guys? I am actually slightly stunned that you are attempting to step back and show us how conservatives view Obama.

My question is, how does the US military factor into  this? Should we also be afraid of our well organized military? They chant stuff, and walk in step with each other etc...

Forces of evil can be inspired just as well as forces of good, I don't see why this is shocking anyone. How is this any different than a Yoga class or cheerleaders or a defensive line in football or line dancing?

What you saw in the video is called "stepping".  This is part of black culture that you are probably not too familiar with.  This is something that blacks have been since they were in africa.  This sort of synchronized dance/chant tradition has NOTHING to do with Obama, and the video you saw was probably practice so the kids could put on a show.  Stepping is often used with youth to demonstrate that they can memorize body movements, and internalize positive messages. If you listen to the words those people said, EVERYTHING was positive.  It only takes ONE idiot to take that video out of cultural context and try to make it look "militant".

Alpha Omega = Fraternity

Oh us crazy black folks and our synchronized dancing...oh wait, what's that you say?  we've obtained footage of the local indiana militia in their combat training?  Let's roll it.

When you take a bunch of young children and teach them to sing songs praising a political figure, it's called brain washing indoctrination.

It happened in Hitler's Germany.
It happened in Mao's China.
It happened in Saddam's Iraq.
It happened in Stalin's Soviet Union.
It happened in Pol Pot's Cambodia.
It happened in Kim Jung Il's North Korea.

The fact that you people think the activity in the video is a good thing speaks volumes to your belief system.

You will win the election in four weeks. Enjoy your moment in the sun. I guarantee there will be enormous political blowback from freedom loving Americans. We will get more than even in 2010.

Ken ken ken, these are just kids being motivated by a hero and role model.  It's hardly brain washing.  At least they aren't speaking in tongues.  You guys are making a big deal out of nothing.  People sing patriotic songs every day.  They pledge allegiance to the flag.

If Obama wins, doesn't that mean there are an awful lot of Americans that want what he has to offer?  That is the truth you seem to be forgetting.  AND, aren't we ready to heal some of the division and partisanship that has gripped this country?  I'm sick to death of it.  What is this "get even" bullshit?  Spewing such hatred.

I suspect you are knowledgeable and smart enough to know how Obama became a senator. He knocked everyone off the ballot and ran unopposed for a state senate seat. He leaked info to the right people to get his opponent to drop out of the race for the US Senate. The inept Republicans in Illinois substituted a lunatic in place of the guy who dropped out. Obama defeated Alan Keyes. That's nothing.

Imagine if just prior to the Iraqi War, a public school teacher in Missouri had his 12 year old students dressing in para-military uniforms, marching in unison, and chanting "Hail Bush", "Hail Our Leader"!

Then imagine a school teacher in California tea ching her seven year old students to sing songs praising "George W Bush, Our Dear Leader". Normally, seven year old kids would be interested in Hannah Montana, not George Bush or Barack Obama.

Would you be uncomfortable with this?

God Camp? God School? That's private religion. I'm not interested in anybody's religion. That's their dig, not mine. I don't care if they teach religion to their kids. That's a private matter.

But when you take children in a taxpayer funded public school and indoctrinate them, teaching to learn to love a political leader, well that's slightly scary.

I'm actually much more concerned by your position on this issue, than by the crazy teachers leading the indoctrination.

If a Democrat controlled Congress passed "Fairness Doctrine" laws that forced Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly off the airwaves, you folks would have no problem whatsoever.

If the Supreme Court had ruled in favor of DC in Heller v DC, outlawing the Second Amenedment, you folks would have no problem whatsoever.

You guys pay lip service to the Bill of Rights, but you really don't give a damn. Your objective is a socialist takeover of America.

Here is what I think as a teacher.

Its a charter school, not a public school, so a lot of this makes no sense.  In fact, I hate charter schools and would point out this is an argument against school privatization, i.e. vouchers.

I have no problem with step, per se.  If the kids came up with this concept and scripted it, good for them and I am fine with the teacher.

If the teacher pushed this concept and scripted it, that is problematic.

When it happened is important.  If it was during a before or after school extracurricular activity, the guy is fine (for the routine at least.)  If it was during class time, the guy should be reprimanded at least. There are all kinds of after-school activities that have politicized undertones.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes comes to mind.  Almost every school I have ever seen serves as at least one church on Sunday.  My classroom is a church group meeting room four nights a week.

As for looking only at Obama's economic plan, I wouldn't do it that way as I try very hard to present balance.  So much so that there are long and fierce debates among my students as to who I am voting for.  I don't think this is enough to get him in trouble, though.

The thing that will get him fired is posting the kids on the ol' series of tubes.  Parents are funny about who is looking at their kids and using these images like this without parent consent is a big deal.

Means going to the polls and voting against socialism.

You see, every four years, there is a presidential election. And between the presidential elections, we have something called a "mid term" election. The next one is scheduled for the first week in November of 2010.

The country has followed this election pattern since the 1780s. I'm surprised you're just now hearing about it.

Let me know if you require further explanation. I will try to be as patient as possible until you get it.

What exactly are you predicting in 2010?

Let's say there are 58 Democratic Senators going it to 2010.  Let's say there are 246 Dem Congressmen.

19 GOP senate seats are up, one will be the seat of retiring Senator Brownback.  15 Dem seats are up, there is some speculation Dodd will retire.

So define this rout?  How much does the GOP have to gain to fulfill your prophecy?  I am assuming they at least have to gain control of both houses so that would be 9 senate pickups and 26 in the house.  Or are you going higher?

Illuminate us, Ken.

Which Governors will replace Byrd, Kennedy, Johnson and the other clowns from Jurasic Park?

by KenTX on 10/09/2008 03:54:41 AM EST

[ Parent ]

If any of those folks, or any others, don't make it two more years that will change the dynamic.

Ted seems like he won't but Duval Patrick is a Dem so no change.

John Manchin is a Dem so Byrd would cause no change.

Tim Johnson could switch if SD governor Michael Rounds got to pick a replacement but remember sometimes governors have the integrity to honor the voters wishes and keep the seat with the elected party, so we will see.

Of course, theoretically, any Senator can be replaced in the next two years.

I suppose each of those would add one Democratic Senator to the list running for (special) election).

Kennedy is irrelevant in this discussion because that seat will stay Dem.  Whether Byrd's legacy or Johnson's potential tragedy will matter is unknown but those seats would be heavily contested.

And let's not forget to add if Stevens gets reelected he has a good shot not to make it to 2010.  Coleman might not survive two years if he wins either.

doesn't mean that he wrote the kid's words.  I will concede that indoctrinating youth with one particular view in a public school is beyond limits, but first, this is a "CHARTER" school, so it is not necessarily public, it just means public funds can be used by children to go to these schools, as well as privately funded children.  Second, these kids say NOTHING about "love, hail, praise, or anything remotely close to Submitting" to Obama.  If you read the whole article, nothing has actually been done to that teacher yet.  So to say "he's in trouble" merely means that this situation is being looked it. It hasn't been declared that this guy is "wrong" yet, but you're conflating "indoctrination" with "stepping", and whether you want to believe it or not the fact that people are proud of a candidate for the first time in their lives and want to wear his face on a shirt, doesn't mean that they are fanatic "hitler youth".  It just means that for the past 43 presidents, the people haven't really liked the Pres. enough to wear him.

Obama can only be president for 8 years...We're not electing a dictator Ken.

Smells like desperation to me, and since both you and bobo posted the same stuff within hours or days of each other, it reeks of Rush Limbaugh.

by desertpear on 10/08/2008 01:18:27 AM EST

[ Parent ]

Is because it just appears bad on the surface.

When you crack it open it is about charter schools which cons love, its at best unclear who wrote the script, if it was the kids, who cares?  It is also unclear if it was during class time or extracurricular.  Religious organizations have fought tooth and nail to keep Christian organizations in school after hours so they would look pretty stupid going after this.  Many schools, for example, have a teacher sponsor a Young Republicans or Young Democrats organization.  Its all within the rules.

This is why no real news organization cares about it.  There's no story here, just some young black men getting involved in politics and a couple of impotent racists who squirm and tremble at any display of black power or pride.

I didn't mean to suggest it wasn't a news story.  Trust me, no one knows more than I that when something controversial happens in a school, people are going to cover it!

I have been in schools that have had at least three stories make statewide news and one make national news.

My point was it didn't have any real relevance to the campaign.  Obama or anyone affiliated with him had nothing to do with it and its unclear exactly which part is objectionable.

Non-teachers may not get this, but I am guessing posting videos of these kids, regardless of what they are doing, is the biggest threat to the guys job.  Parents are funny about images of their kids being put out in public without parental consent.

And I am also quick to point out that what this guy did was extremely stupid.  He had to know this could cause trouble.  I know there is no rule against me introducing my political affiliation in class but I don't do it as a matter of principle (and hypercaution that is required to be a teacher these days).  Near as I can tell this is what happens when you privatize schools: under paid, under qualified jerkoffs with no supervision do stupid shit and kids end up having to wade through news trucks to get into their classes.  It sucks.  I know.

1. It is a news story.

2. The mainstream press is not covering it, even though it is a news story.

The press has been giving Obama a pass since early on in the primaries.

Can you imagine if in 2000 or 2004, it had been discovered that GWB's pastor of 20 years routinely preached hatred of America from the pulpit? Now THAT would be a news story the press covered.

I suppose the big damning piece of evidence is that a reader posted about it on the message board.  Dun-dun duh!   Well, I am certainly not voting for Obama now.  Someone posted something I didn't like on his message board!

That would be like holding Cenk accountable for bobo's racial screeds.  It would be like holding Jayar to task for acroso's grammar, or Dave for your illiteracy.

you assume because I'm black, that MY ancestors came here as slaves...I got news for you buddy, my ancestors came over here on the fucking Santa Maria.  My ancestors intermarried with Blackfoot Indians...I have fucking RED HAIR...I was never WHINING...you just assumed that because I was simply explaining why some people feel justified in their anger.  You're going as far as to say that us black people are LUCKY because our ancestors got SOLD by other stupid ass africans to stupid ass westerners who still believed in owning other people...yeah, some luck ken...and now we get blamed for a mortgage crisis, when a bunch of rich assholes took out mortgages that they now can't pay either...the problem is in Miama and LA, not the ghettos...but no, now it's not okay to dissent in America, you have to like everything you get...FUCK THAT...I AM AMERICA, and if you want to give me some Trail of tears bullshit, you can eat that...you spout racist bullshit all the time, and then you always throw out your fucking "mexican" roots...BULLSHIT...don't talk about your heritage if you're going to be a racist, because you can't play both cards...look I can fucking Hate america, AND live here, because that's what the fucking constitution allows me to do, and if you don't like it, you can GET OUT...

I love America for what it is, but I am allowed to hate it for what it has done.  It's like a bitch mother who orphaned her kid, it's still your mother.

You say the Constitution allows you to live in America, and yet still hate your country. That's a true statement. In fact, that's exactly the point I've been making about liberals in this forum for more than four years.

But I don't have to respect Americans who hate their country. And as a Mexican-Indian-Anglo-Americ an, with Japanese-American cousins and Chinese-American cousins, I don't have to respect people who still want to complain about stupid shit that happened 200 years ago.

It doesn't matter to me if you're a Melungeon or a Jefferson. You need to get with the freakin program, and get on board the Love Train just like everybody else.

The rest of us got over it. You need to get over it also. I'm certainly not about to make your problem into my problem.

Here's a news flash for you: After Barack Obama is elected president, there are officially no more excuses allowed for anyone. It's time to sink or swim. It's time to quit looking backward and start looking forward.

Are you enjoying receiving this little pep talk as much as I'm enjoying giving it to you?

Forgetting history makes you repeat it.  Have you fucking forgotten that this financial meltdown is not the first time this exact same thing has happened.  It's because the American public forgot what the depression was like, so now we are on our way again...You can't move forward if you don't know what's behind you Ken...As far as a pep talk...If I needed to get motivated by you, I wouldn't be where I am today...READ WHAT I FUCKING SAID KEN, your dodging of my assertions that I'm not complaining is really annoying.  You can't discern between "complaining", and "observing".  I never said that I wanted reparations, or any BULLSHIT like that.  You're just mad because I have the balls to talk about the bad parts of American history and call America out.  I bet if you were German, you'd be saying that the Jews just need to get over the holocaust, and MOVE ON...

Fucking retarded shit Ken, seriously

I will concede that indoctrinating youth with one particular view in a public school is beyond limits, but first, this is a "CHARTER"

You just showed me that you don't actually read anything I write...

We all come from Mother Africa--you can feel it when you are there.

You might not know this ken because you seem pretty out of touch with black america...lots of black americans and black africans still have bad feelings today, especially nigerians and kenyans.  I'm not one of those people, but believe me, nigerians have the 1992 gangsta blood crip stereo type of us too.  Black Americans do complain alot, but I'm not one of those people.  Honestly, that pisses ME OFF, but I get it.  EVERYTHING IS NOT RACIST, and some blacks will argue with me on that one.  You may consider what I said "complaining", but it's literally something you will never understand because you didn't grow up black.  I was fortunate enough to get the 3rd wave of affirmative action, when it really isn't as necessary, so I put OTHER on college applications...yes, I didn't USE affirmative action.  We live in a society where blacks don't have to use affirmative action anymore, and it needs to be needs based.  So next time you go assuming that I'm complaining, shut up and fucking read my comment.
